Hotel Review: DoubleTree West Palm Beach

Palm Beach Florida is often overlooked as a vacation destination but the nightlife of Miami or the family-centered Orlando. When we mentioned to our friends that we were going to Palm Beach they almost all asked if we were looking for retirement homes 🙂 Strangely enough, even though its not a super popular destination the hotels in the Palm Beach area were rather expensive when we were looking to go in February. Lots of resorts like the famous Breakers or Four Seasons on the Island were over $400 a night! I guess snowbirds from up north were looking for warmer climates.

Check-In

Usually I do not feel like I need to review hotel check-ins since they are all pretty standard affairs of going up to a counter, getting your key and going to your room. However, I stay at DoubleTree Hotels because they give out hot chocolate chip cookies! (and pricing etc). The first photo on this review shows the cookies, but doesn’t do justice to how delicious they were. Usually they are much better on cold days, but even the breezy but hot day in Palm Beach could not stop me from eating one right away.

King Bed Room – Top Floor

Comfy King Sized Bed

Fancy Couch

Fancy Couch

If a picture is really worth a thousand words I just posted 3,000 words worth of content! The room was fairly standard for what you expect to see in a mid-level business hotel. Decently sized with a king bed, two nightstands with lamps, seating area with fancy looking couch, coffee table and work table. Nice flat screen TV with good cable/sat channels (which we don’t use much while travelling since we like to see the sights). Overall the room was a bit dated, but clean and comfortable. There were a limited number of power outlets, which is a personal pet-peeve of mine so we had to move the bed a little bit.

The hotel location was in a office park right off a major road. It was set back you there was no road noise and made it very easy to drive to the major tourist destinations like the beaches etc. The staff said that the hotel was full, but we never saw more than 10 people around and the parking lot was pretty empty so that was a bit strange. Overall a decent hotel for only $145 a night (plus taxes and fees) on our corporate rate. I would go back again if I was in town for business, but might try and stay on a beach hotel next time.
